  • Tufnol engine spacer

I have lost the tufnol spacer which goes between the crank case and barrel of my mx3a Challenger.
I intend to make a new one but cannot find how thick it should be.
Can someone tell me what thickness sheet I should buy.
    Thanks Mike

      Tufnol spacer

I tried Villiers Services but Lewis only had one for a 250 Griffon.
      I will try again though.
      Thanks Mike

Hello Mike, just had a look at my MX3 and the Tufnol spacer measures 3/8".
Also the heat shield on mine is 3mm as well.
        hope this is of use.

        cheers
        Colin

            Tufnol spacer

Hello Gary. I spoke to Lewis just now and he looked and can only find the thin / paper gaskets not the tufnol ones. He said that you know the stores better than he does but could not find the one which I need.
Looks like I will have to buy some tufnol and get cutting.
            Mike

Sorry Mike I gave you the wrong info re the thickness of the tufnol spacer, I clearly didn't read it correctly and of course I gave you the Carb to barrel spacer, I do apologise (put it down to senile decay/age and I am on nightshift this week) hope you get sorted.

                Colin

ps. I just had a quick look at mine and the Crankcase to Barrel spacer measures 1/8" + paper gasket.
pps. I am awake this time

                  Tufnol

                  Hello Colin.
I understood what you meant with the sizes because I too am suffering from all the old age diseases and usually get things the wrong way round when I try to remember what I mean.
                  Thanks.
                  Mike

Colin Sparrow's book mentions it being 1/8".

                      Tufnol

Thanks to all for your help.
I bought a sheet of tufnol [300mm x 300mm] 3mm thick and used a friends unused spacer to mark out the shape and then made a new one. I have enough left over to make one for the 360 next time it comes apart.
The sheet cost £17 delivered next day from Direct Plastics.
After rebuilding the engine you know what comes next but its edges were very untidy so the new one was 'justified'
