  • The Inevitable Festive Caption Competition Returns For The Inevitable Round 3..!

    Greetings Cap Comp fan!

And so.....as another year draws to a close and we both reflect on the two fine preceding rounds that saw, yet again, the full might of the collective GRA chuckle bones locked once more in mirthful combat in the noble quest for Greeves related jovial jewels of jocularity, the five of us find ourselves drawn inexorably, like shavings of bronze gearbox bush to a magneto, to this, the inevitable round 3 round, the main event if you will....

So, without further ado, let us begin this final charge down the road to nowhere in the vague hope that it brings forth, once again, some garrulous giggles and loquacious lassitudes, or even just a few good laughs....

For your creative consideration, my fellow humourists, here is an excellent picture of the British Army MCA Team for the 1958 ISDT, comprising from left to right, Doug Theobald, Alex Nicholson, the great Bill Booker and Pat Brittain, legends all, admiring the latest factory weapon Greeves International 2LHK. I really like this shot as I think it shows the sporting good humour that these fine competitors shared in those bygone days, and often something sadly lacking in todays uber 'corporate' events....

    To get things rolling, how about;

Bill explains the latest 'works mod'.....

"It looks like a nut, but it's actually a button! The lads in the comp shop thought it up as a way to confuse the other teams in the special tests. Press once for the 'Ice Cream Van' sound, press twice for the 'Air Raid Warning Siren' and press three times for the 'Tannoy Announcement - ALL TEAMS RETURN TO PARC FERME!!'"....!!

Over to you folks, and have fun....

    Brian.

          LGPS Adjuster.....

"Following last years 'problems', you'll all no doubt be pleased to hear that the Lower Gangle Pinion Spigot Adjuster has been moved to a much more accessible place" Bill explains, to his clearly delighted team mates....

Doug; "......what's a 'Lower Gangle Pinion Spigot'.......???

          All; "READ THE MANUAL DOUG.....!!!"

          Brian.

              "Lads!!! Wait for me-eeeeee.....!!!!"

As the final pic is taken for the team photoshoot and Alex skillfully finishes lock-wiring Bill's leg to the footrest without him noticing, the lads look forward to a well deserved pint in the club house.....

                  Inspired by JW!

".......... and this is where I'm thinking of mounting the new sterling silver badge when it arrives from Dan Vitaletti in the States. Should double the value of this old work-horse ............"

                  (Thanks, John, for the inspiration!)

                    QD Front End.....

Bill; "All you have to do is undo this one single bolt and you can swap the entire front fork assembly in less than eight seconds.....no, really....!!!"

Brilliant comp Thommo - every comment a chuckle

                        Here's my modest contribution...

"Look this new variable rate torsion bush rising damping will get us ahead of those pesky CZ's and Huskies for sure - all you need to do is turn this screw fully clockwise to the B mark for 'Bugger all effect' useful in the unlikely event you find smooth ground and fully anticlockwise to the Z mark for Zebbedee Full Boing effect for the jumps ...Simples " Explains Bill

                          Hiya Kim!

                          Nice one mate.....!!!

Of course Kim, there is historical precedent here as well we know, and as this pic admirably demonstrates....BGS used the 'Z' setting to great effect on many occasions, as well as helium in the tyres of course....

(I love ths shot! How relaxed did BGS always look, even when going for some serious 'air' like here.....amazing style, what a great rider he truly was. )

                          Brian.
