  • Dave Scotneys 125 Puch engined Scottish at Cheffins tommorrow

The late Dave Scotney brought this bike along to one of the Cambridge meetings, at least the details given by the auctioneers are an honest account of the bike. Even got a mention myself along with the GRA & LL article. Estimate a reasonable £800 to £1400

    The 1959 197cc engined 24TAS. Age related number. Estimate £2000 to £3000

Ex Gordon Farleys 24TJS Anglian WWC 170F. Estimate a sensible £3k to £4k

Ex Mike Jackson 24SAS Hawkstone. Estimate £3k to £4k

    Cheffins results

    125 Puch/Scottish Hybrid sold at £720
    TAS Scottish sold at £2550
Gordon Farleys Anglian sold at £4500
Mike Jacksons Hawkstone unsold at £1900

Note these are hammer prices buyers commission & VAT to be added.
So not too many surprises there.
The Anglian made good money, presumably helped by being a works bike.
The 24TAS (actually a 20TAS) also made good money considering it was far from correct in some details & of course had non original engine.
The 125 Puch / Scottish Hybrid whilst a bit under estimate still made a reasonable price, but with a bit of scope to spend money to put it back to original spec after removing & selling on the 125 Puch engine.
The biggest surprise was old MJ's Hawkstone, at £1900 it did not make the
£3k reserve & obviously Mikes name did not enhance the bids. Had it been a Stonebridge or Bickers bike it would have been another story. Puts the £6.2k bid on the RCA Hawkstone in the HH auction in perspective.
Looks like trials bikes are the ones that buyers are looking for.

      Cheffins Results

In the end Mike Jacksons Hawkstone was sold at the hammer price of £2200 presumably after a deal with the auctioneer after the sale.

        Dave Scotney's bikes

Did anyone buy one of Dave's bikes? I asked the auctioneer to pass on my name/tel No to the buyer of the 125 Puch/Scottish special (which he did) but have heard nothing. I assume therefore it probably went to an autojumbler for breaking rather than a GRA member for restoring!!

          The 24TAS

I have recently heard from Michael Reid of Dersingham that he bought the 1959 197cc engined 24TAS Scottish with a 9E engine in the auction. Michael has a problem with the engine, although it starts & runs at low revs it splutters & cuts out when he opens up the throttle. Sounds like a carb problem, maybe blocked main jet through standing. If there is anyone in the Dersingham area (which is between Kings Lynn & Hunstanton near Sandringham) perhaps they could help Mike sort the problem. I have his email address which I can pass on via a PM.
The Puch engined Scottish has still not surfaced, Mike did not buy that, & did not take note of who bought it on the day.
